Column Harp

Column Harp is a provocation about the potential of an architectural tensile canopy that is designed to function as an inhabitable musical instrument.

A scale model was created to explore how traditional string instruments could be informed by the large scale architectural concept: the hollow steel column would act simultaneously as a structural member and the resonant body to amplify the sounds of the plucked steel cables in tension. Column Harp works to organize both space and time, making place through shade and sound.
